NURSING HOMES MINISTRY
 
 
I. MISSION STATEMENT (brief statement of purpose)

 
The MISSION of the NURSING HOMES MINISTRY is to provide Catholic liturgical services - both liturgy of Word and Eucharist - on a regular basis to residents of nursing homes and retirement facilities, so as to nourish their faith life and bring “church to those who can no longer come to church.”
 
II. GOAL (“end-product” …desired outcome for those to whom ministry is directed)
 
The GOAL of the NURSING HOMES MINISTRY is for residents of nursing homes and retirement facilities to participate on a regular basis in Catholic liturgical worship, so as to experience God’s love and sustain a connectedness with their spiritual roots and former faith practices.
 
III. OBJECTIVES (corollaries, strategies, priorities flowing out of mission and goal)
1. To establish a coordinating team to implement mission and objectives, provide for leadership succession, and representation on commission.
2. To conduct liturgical services on a twice monthly basis, alternating between Mass and communion service.
3. To provide liturgically sensitive liturgies of the Word, with carefully selected scripture, homily, silent reflection, music.
4. To recruit more presiders and assistant ministers for the nursing homes ministry.
5. To train ministers of care to be presiders and assistant ministers.
6. To survey what nursing & retirement facilities in our cluster are in need of twice monthly liturgical services.
7. To collaborate with parishes in the cluster that may want to offer liturgical services on a regular basis.
 
IV. SERVICES
1. Recruitment and training of presiders and assistant ministers for the nursing homes ministry.
2. Conducting Catholic liturgical services twice monthly, alternating between Mass and communion service.
3. Surveying the needs in cluster area facilities and assisting other parishes who may want to conduct liturgical worship services in their facilities.
