RACIAL & ETHNIC SENSITIVITY MINISTRY
I. MISSION STATEMENT (brief statement
of purpose)
The MISSION of the RACIAL & ETHNIC
SENSITIVITY MINISTRY is to promote racial
understanding among our parishioners,
to create a spirit of welcome and inclusion
for racial minorities within our parish
and community, all in order to carry
forward the mission of the Church, “to
gather people of every race, language
and way of life to share in the one
eternal banquet.”
II. GOAL (“end-product”
…desired outcome for those to
whom ministry is directed)
The GOAL of the RACIAL & ETHNIC
SENSITIVITY MINISTRY is for parishioners
to acknowledge racial justice as a faith
issue and to actively foster racial
and ethnic harmony, (i.e., “ ..to
make your Church throughout the world
a sign of unity and instrument of your
peace.”
III. OBJECTIVES (corollaries,
strategies, priorities flowing from
mission and goal)
1. To establish a three person coordinating
committee to provide for a system of
leadership succession, representation
on the commission, and implementation
of mission and objectives.
2. Educate ourselves and parish community
about what racism is, and how to acknowledge
and eradicate it within ourselves, within
parish life, and in the wider community.
3. Inform the parish-at-large on racial
and ethnic issues.
4. Join in the public debate and strategies
of the racial justice division of the
Archdiocesan office for Peace &
Justice, when moral issues of racism
are at stake.
5. Provide opportunities for parishioners
to take meaningful and effective action
on local, city, national and global
racial issues.
6. Collaborate with other parish ministries,
such as Peace and Justice, Disciples
in Mission, Social Concerns, Liturgical
Planning, to accomplish this ministry’s
mission and objectives.
IV. SERVICES (programs, actions,
projects)
1. Parishioners’ participation
in the three-stage racial and ethnic
sensitivity workshops of the Archdiocesan
Office for Racial Justice.
2. Providing information for the parish
community on racial and ethnic matters,
especially information from the racial
justice division of the office for Peace
and Justice.
3. Providing opportunities for parishioners
to interact with parishes of different
racial & ethnic composition.
4. Collaborate with other parish ministries
in preparing and conducting parish programs
and events that foster the mission and
goal of this ministry.
