LITURGICAL MUSIC MINISTRY
I. MISSION STATEMENT (brief statement
of purpose)
The MISSION of the LITURGICAL MUSIC
MINISTRY is to provide music leadership
appropriate to the various styles of
worship within the faith community of
M.S.W.
II. GOAL (“end-product”
…desired outcome for those to
whom ministry is directed)
The GOAL of the LITURGICAL MUSIC MINISTRY
is for the faithful to be led to that
full, conscious, and active participation
in liturgical celebrations which is
demanded by the very nature of the liturgy,
so that the community will enter more
fully into the mystery of Christ.
III. OBJECTIVES (corollaries,
strategies, priorities flowing from
mission and goal)
1. To establish a core group of musicians
and directors to assist the Ministry
of Music in maintaining a high quality
of liturgical music, and to provide
for recruitment, leadership succession,
and delegate for commission.
2. For music ministers to foster in
congregations a sense of joy and spiritual
energy through the liturgical music
ministry, so that the celebration will
raise us up and renew our lives by the
Spirit that is within us.
3. For music ministers to understand
the parish’s relationship to Christ
and the Church and their own personal
involvement in the mystery of Christ.
4. To foster a sense of unity and community
among the various music ministries,
while respecting their unique musical
expression.
5. To recruit new cantors, instrumentalists,
choir members for established ensembles/choirs,
including junior high and high school
age musicians.
6. To form new ensembles as the need
arises.
7. To provide formation and training
of cantors.
8. To offer opportunities for continuing
education, course work, spiritual support/renewal
for all involved in music ministry -
directors, assistants, singers, instrumentalists.
9. For major feasts and festivals to
hire professional musicians to enhance
the celebration.
10. To provide appropriate music for
weddings and funerals.
11. In collaboration with the Racial
& Ethnic Sensitivity Ministry and
other appropriate parish ministries,
to arrange for ethnic parish liturgical
choirs and other groups to participate
in selected parish liturgies.
12. To enable the children of the Parish
School and School of Religion to participate
in liturgical music.
IV. SERVICES (programs, actions,
projects)
1. Provide musical leadership for the
variety of congregations that worship
on weekends.
2. Provide music for additional liturgies
as needed/or as they occur: mission,
extra liturgies at Christmas, Easter,
Holy Days, Penance Services, Funerals,
Weddings.
3. Recruitment, formation, support/renewal
of ministers.
