SOCIAL CONCERNS MINISTRY
I. MISSION STATEMENT (brief statement
of purpose)
The MISSION of the SOCIAL CONCERNS MINISTRY
is to give material help and aid to
needy individuals, families and groups
out of a Christian faith perspective,
namely, seeing Christ in the poor and
being Christ to them, thus fulfilling
the gospel mandate to “feed the
hungry, clothe the naked, give shelter
to the homeless.”
II. GOAL (“end-product”

whom ministry is directed)
The GOAL of the SOCIAL CONCERNS MINISTRY
is for the needy to get back on their
feet by our providing temporary emergency
material support and aid.
III. OBJECTIVES (corollaries,
strategies, priorities flowing out of
mission and goal)
1. To establish a coordinating team
to implement mission, goal and objectives,
to provide for representation on the
commission and a system of leadership
succession.
2. To assist as many needy people as
possible through our own resources and
through available outside resources.
3. To provide temporary support to those
who visit the rectory or to those who
are identified as being in need.
4. Collaborate with other parish ministries
in efforts to alleviate the sufferings
of the poor & disadvantaged.
5. Document all resources direct and
indirect that we provide our clients.
6. Improve communications with other
community organizations, collaborate
with them and share information.
7. Establish a computer based information
system in an effort to maximize utilization
of our available funds.
8. Explore the merits of a staff position
for Social Concerns Coordinator.
IV. SERVICES (programs, actions,
projects)
1. Assist the needy with coupons for
food, clothing, medication and medical
supplies.
2. Help with rent assistance or housing
needs.
3. Recruit volunteers for transportation
of elderly or homebound so as to enable
them to go shopping, keep medical, dental
appointments, etc..
4. Recruit volunteers to visit, relieve
caregivers, arrange for child-care services,
snow shoveling, etc.
5. Coordinate regular schedules for
taking blood pressures, conducting blood
drives, food drives, coat drives, etc.
6. Organize and publicize Advent projects
and arrange to have donations delivered
to proper organizations.
7. Conduct annual Christmas Tree Gift
Program for needy families, and expand
to include our Twinning Parishes.
