PEACE & JUSTICE MINISTRY
I. MISSION STATEMENT (brief statement
of purpose)
The MISSION of the PEACE & JUSTICE
MINISTRY is to help parishioners make
social justice a priority of Mary, Seat
of Wisdom’s commitment to the
gospel of Christ. As a faith community
commissioned by baptism and confirmation
and nourished by eucharist, we strive
to recognize the God-given dignity and
unique value of every human being coupled
with the rich heritage of Catholic social
teachings.
II. GOAL (“end-product”…desired
outcome for those to whom ministry is
directed)
The GOAL of the PEACE & JUSTICE
MINISTRY is for parishioners to live
Christ’s two-fold commandment
of love in the public arena as well
as in the private, making social justice
an integral part of Christian discipleship.
III. OBJECTIVES (corollaries,
strategies, priorities flowing from
mission and goal)
1. To establish a coordinating team
to provide for a system of leadership
succession, representation on the commission,
and implementation of mission and objectives.
2. Educate ourselves and the parish
community about Catholic social teachings.
3. Raise awareness of social issues
and join in the public debate when moral
issues are at stake, especially those
pertaining to the poor and vulnerable.
4. Membership with a diverse group of
church, community, labor and business
organizations to form a powerful coalition
working for social change.
5. Training in and use of “relationship
power” to bring about systemic
change in social structures.
6. Engage parish-at-large in social
justice actions.
7. Provide opportunity for parishioners
to take meaningful and effective action
on local and global peace & justice
efforts.

such as social concerns, racial &
ethnic sensitivity, liturgical planning,
to accomplish the goal of this ministry.

for parish community on specific social
issues, such as third world debt reduction,
