Ministry Profile
EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS MINISTRY
I. MISSION STATEMENT (brief statement
of purpose)
The MISSION of the EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS
MINISTRY is to serve the worshipping
community in the distribution of the
Body and Blood of Christ at liturgical
services.
II. GOAL (“end-product”
…desired outcome for those to
whom ministry is directed)
The GOAL of the EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS
MINISTRY is the spiritual renewal of
communicants whereby parishioners who
are nourished by his body and blood
"become one body, one spirit in Christ"
- one with the Lord and with his body,
the Church - thereby renewing their
commitment to the whole Christ.
III. OBJECTIVES (corollaries,
strategies, priorities flowing from
mission and goal)
1. To provide for a system of leadership
succession, representation on the commission,
and implementation of ministry’s
mission, goal and objectives.
2. To instruct Eucharistic ministers
about the ecclesial dimension of Eucharist:
that it brings us into communion with
the Whole Christ, head and members,
so that holy communion is never an individual
personal matter apart from others, but
a call to collaborate in service and
love of others.
3. To encourage Eucharistic ministers
to set a tone of reverence in the distribution
of communion, and to provide guidelines
and instructions about stations for
the distribution of hosts and cups,
eye contact, proper dress, procedures
for substitutions, etc.
4. To help Eucharistic ministers understand
the importance of the ritual moment:
that they are serving in the person
of Christ who looks with love and welcoming
on each communicant; that when they
say: “The Body of Christ,”
they wait to receive the communicant’s
pledge of love and service in the “Amen.”
Then they present the host or cup.
IV. SERVICES (programs, actions,
projects)
1. Recruitment, training and mandation
of Eucharistic ministers.
2. Scheduling and assignments
3. Acting as extraordinary ministers
for the distribution of communion at
liturgical services.
4. Ongoing formation and education of
Eucharistic ministers on the spirituality
and faith dimensions of this ministry.
5. Establishing a coordinating committee
to provide a structure for leadership
succession, representation on the commission,
and implementation of ministry’s
mission and objectives.
